AROMATHERAPY EXPLAINED

We know that life can be stressful, this is why we have created a list of scented goods to alleviate some of the pain you're experiencing. As many of us should already know, our sense of smell plays a major role into our lives. Whether it's those cookies baking or your mom's comforting perfume or even that onion and garlic frying on the stove, WE CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THAT FAVORITE SCENT!

Well, the response you feel from your body after smelling that favorite scent is essentially what aromatherapy is all about but with the use of essential and fragrance oils.

Now, you may be wondering "How exactly does aromatherapy work?" Well, when you inhale an aroma, there are certain molecules in the body that trigger a signal in the olfactory bulb responsible for our sense of smell. Your nerve axons, aka "information messengers", then extend to the pyramidal cortex which triggers the Limbic system responsible for our emotions, behaviors, motivations and long-term memories.

this is a picture that shows the different parts of the brain that are affected by smelling something. This shows the activation of the olfactory bulb that's responsible for our sense of smell which triggers limbic system of the brain that affects our emotions, behaviors, motivations, and long-term memories

"What does any of that mean?" Simply put, you inhale a scent, it travels in the body and triggers emotions, behaviors, motivations and memories based on the chemical makeup of said scent. Our body responds accordingly, and we become consciously aware of the change. This leads to our reaction whether we like the scent or not. Let me give you an example.

this is a picture of a peppermint scented candle using peppermint essential oil that has menthol in it to help relieve headaches and improve nasal congestion during the winter when we are all experiencing cold and flu symptoms

Menthol, a chemical found in peppermint and other mint plants, has a cooling effect that's all too familiar. This makes mint plants great for relieving headaches and improving congestion. Some of the most common products that contain menthol are Vicks VapoRub and Cough drops. And whether we personally like the scent or not, the benefits remain the same when using those products. We experience a relief from nasal congestion, headaches and other common cold/flu symptoms.

The same can be said for all of our candles when it comes to burning and smelling them. Based on the oil used, your body will react and depending on the chemical makeup of the scent, you will experience relief from a headache, congestion, cramp, nausea and so much more.

You just have to Light and Enjoy!
